The following are the 10 most mentioned names in the Bible. The number of times someone’s name appears in the Bible depends on the translation. For our purposes we will use the New International Version.

The Most Mentioned Name In The Bible

1. Jesus – 1310

As it should be, Jesus is the most mentioned name in the Bible at 1310 times. The name Christ or Jesus Christ appears another 469 times.

The Other Nine Most Common Names

2. David – 974

David, a man who is described in the Scriptures as being a man after God’s own heart, is the second most mentioned name in the Bible with 974 mentions.

3. Moses – 803

Moses, the man who led God’s people out of slavery, and the one who came down out of Mount Sinai with the Ten Commandments, is right behind David with his name appearing 803 times.

4. Jacob – 363

He was the brother of Esau, the father of Joseph, and the one who wrestled with an angel. Jacob comes in as the fourth most mentioned person in the Bible.

5. Aaron – 342

Aaron, who served as his brother Moses’ spokesman to Pharaoh, gets 342 mentions.

6. Saul – 326

Saul was the first King of Israel.

7. Solomon – 272

The man known for his wisdom and many wives, Solomon gets his name in the Bible a total of 272 times.

8. Joseph – 248

Joseph went from being Potiphar’s servant and a prisoner, to being the second most powerful man in Egypt under Pharaoh. He gets a well-earned 248 mentions.

9. Paul – 239

The great Apostle Paul, author of a majority of the New Testament, is the 9th most mentioned person in the Bible. It is worth mentioning that Paul, who also went by the name Saul early on, gets his name of Saul mentioned another 29 times in the New Testament.

10. Abraham – 235

Father Abraham rounds out our top ten names with a count of 235 times.
