What is Agnosticism?

Agnosticism is the view that it is not possible to know or prove the existence of God. One who claims to be an agnostic will not commit to believing in either the existence or nonexistence of God. The theist says God does exist. The atheist says he doesn’t. An agnostic says it can’t be proven either way. They claim it’s impossible to know how the universe was created or whether God exist.

While similar views as agnosticism can be traced back to earlier centuries, it was English biologist Thomas Henry Huxley who penned the phrase agnostic in 1869. Quoting Mr. Huxley, “It simply means that a man shall not say he knows or believes that which he has no scientific grounds for professing to know or believe.”

Agnosticism Ignores The Scientific Facts

Unfortunately the person who claims to be agnostic really does choose to ignore many scientific facts written within the pages of the Bible. For those who take the time to do so, you will find things written in the Bible thousands of years ago that they had no way of proving at the time. However, science does prove these things to be true today. From the earth being round (Isaiah 40:22) and floating in space (Job 26:7), to the mountains in the sea (Jonah 2:5-6), it’s in the Bible, and proven to be true today.

It is equally unfortunate that the agnostic will end up in the same predicament as the atheist. One chooses to deny God while the other chooses not to acknowledge him. Both will find themselves bowing to God their creator and facing judgement day to answer for the decisions they have made. They will be without excuse.

(Romans 1:20) For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God. (NLT)

(Psalm 19:1) The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
