Are angels male or female? Are they boys or girls?
Always A Male In The Bible
Angels appear in the Bible many times, and at each appearance it is always as a male. They are never referred to in the Bible as being female. The following verses are examples of where you will find them described as he, his, or himself.
(Zechariah 1:19) I asked the angel who was speaking to me, “What are these?” He answered me, “These are the horns that scattered Judah, Israel and Jerusalem.”
(1 Chronicles 21:27) Then the Lord spoke to the angel, and he put his sword back into its sheath.
(Judges 6:21) Then the angel of the Lord touched the meat and the unleavened bread with the tip of the staff that was in his hand.
(Judges 13:21) When the angel of the Lord did not show himself again to Manoah and his wife, Manoah realized that it was the angel of the Lord.
(Revelation 10:1) Then I saw another mighty angel coming down from heaven. He was robed in a cloud, with a rainbow above his head; his face like the sun, and his legs were fiery pillars.
All Named Angels Have Male Names
The angels that are named in the Bible all have male names. They are Michael, Gabriel, and Lucifer.
(Revelation 12:7) Then war broke out in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back.
(Luke 1:26) In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, A town in Galilee
(Isaiah 14:12) “How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! KJV
In Spite of The Pictures And Claims, The Bible Says They’re Male
Some have tried to use (Zechariah 5:9) as an example of female angels, but the two women in this scripture were never called angels. Although many pictures and paintings show them as females, and some people even make claims to have seen female angels, this is not something that is in agreement with the Bible.
We don’t know everything there is to know about angels, but we do know they have been given the ability by God to appear to humans. We also know that when it comes to the question of “Are angels male or female?”, in the Bible they are always referred to and appear in the masculine form of a male.
