Can Christians command angels? In any way does the Bible suggest we have the authority to instruct angels to do our bidding?
Do Christians Command Angels, Or Is God Commanding Them?
There is no example in the Bible of humans commanding angels. The Bible does say in (Hebrews 1:14) that angels are ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation. Angels do work on our behalf, but only at the command of God. What angels do for us is not in any way a result of control we have over them.
We actually find quite the opposite happening in (Genesis 19:16). Instead of humans commanding angels, we find Lot and his family being seized by angels and led to safety before the city of Sodom was destroyed. It was the angels who were in control here.
We do find numerous examples in the Bible where God himself sent angels to help his people. He sent an angel to rescue his servants Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego from the fiery furnace (Daniel 3:28). He also sent his angel to save Daniel in the lions den (Daniel 6:22). Once again God sent his angel in the New Testament to rescue Peter from prison (Acts 12:11).
Christians Are Outranked By Angels
From scripture we read about how Jesus was made lower than the angels (Hebrews 2:7). With that being said, we known that as humans we are beings of a lower ranking than the angels. At least here on earth, it could be said that we as believers are outranked by the angelic beings.
In the end we shouldn’t worry so much about the question, “Can Christians command angels?” We should be focused on praying to the one who can send angels to help us, when and if he chooses to do so.
