Science and the Bible, what do they have in common? Does science prove or disprove the Bible as being true and accurate?
Scientific Facts In The Bible
Science can be defined as the things we have learned to be true by studying the natural world. These things are based on the facts that have been learned by experimenting or observing.
The Bible contains many scientific facts written within its pages thousands of years ago. God revealed to us truths in His Word that the people of that day had no way of knowing and had no way to prove.
Science has come a long way in the last hundred years or so in being able to find out things about the earth, space, and the human body that God has always known. The Bible has proven to be way ahead of man when it comes to scientific discoveries. The following are just a few examples of this.
The Earth Floats In Space
(Job 26:7) He spreads out the northern skies over empty space; he suspends the earth over nothing.
Different cultures over the centuries have had some very interesting ideas of how they thought the earth was being held up. It is said that some believed our planet sat on the back of a giant turtle. Others believed it was elephants holding up the earth.
God told us in the Book of Job that, “he suspends the earth over nothing.” This was written several thousand years before man had the ability to take pictures from space. These amazing pictures of the earth floating in space are just as God said it is, he suspended it over nothing.
The Earth Is Round
(Isaiah 40:22) He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth
The same pictures we look at today showing the earth floating in space, also show our planet to be round like a baseball, instead of flat like a pancake. In times past some have actually believed in the pancake theory. The Bible once again proves to be correct in Isaiah.
The Springs Of The Sea
(Job 38:16) “Have you journeyed to the springs of the sea or walked in the recesses of the deep?
(Genesis 7:11) In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, on the seventeenth day of the second month – on that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened.
The deepest parts of the oceans reach down over 36,000 feet. We know it was not possible for Job to have explored the floors of the ocean. With the technology of our modern times, inventions such as deep diving submarines have allowed scientists to discover the springs on the ocean floor that were spoke about in Genesis and Job. This is another amazing scientific fact written about in the scriptures many centuries ago that has today been proven to be true.
Mountains In The Sea
(Jonah 2:5-6) The engulfing waters threatened me, the deep surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head. To the roots of the mountains I sank down; the earth beneath barred me in forever.
Scientists today are using radar satellites to locate thousands of mountains in the oceans. Some of these mountains tower above the ocean floors a mile high.
Man Was Made From Dust
(Genesis 2:7) Then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground
Science has found the human body to be made up of the same minerals and elements that can be found in the earth’s crust. From dust we were made and dust we shall return.
Circumcision On The Eight Day
(Genesis 17:12) For the generations to come every male among you who is eight days old must be circumcised
From medical science we know Vitamin K helps the blood to clot. A newborns level of Vitamin K peaks on the eighth day. What are the odds of that. When God told them to do it on day number 8 there was a reason. It sounds like it was a wise thing to obey his Word even from a medical point of view.
Science Proves The Bible To Be Accurate And True
These are just a few of the many facts in the Bible that allow a Christian to demonstrate to others just how accurate and true the Scriptures are from a scientific perspective. It is interesting how so many have attempted to use science to disprove the Bible as being true.
Such is the case with supposed evolution. Unlike the above examples of science that have been proven, evolution has never been seen, demonstrated, or proven. This would make it a scientific opinion, but certainly not a fact that discredits the Bible. Some say, “I will believe it when I see it.” Science now allows you to see God’s Word, prove it, and believe it!
