It is very common to find someone who believes people become angels when they die. You can hear it said quite often when a loved one has passed away. It may be words stated at a funeral, or a post on Facebook. Someone’s loved one is now in heaven watching over them as their guardian angel. People may mean well in trying to comfort others or themselves with this thought. The problem is having loved ones who die and become guardian angels is not an idea that is biblically accurate.
Humans Becoming Angels Isn’t In The Bible
People do not become angels when they die. This idea is not found anywhere in the Bible. Angels are totally separate and different beings than humans. Both were created by God, but the Bible tells us we were made a little lower than the angels (Psalms 8:4-5). Humans will actually judge angels according to (1 Corinthians 6:3).
Angels Long To Look Into The Gospel Experience
For humans to make it to heaven, we must be born again of the water and the spirit. Based on the above scripture, we know angels are not able to experience this born again salvation that God has made available to humans. It would not make sense to say a saved Christian who dies and goes to heaven becomes an angel when the angels themselves are longing to look into the gospel experience that we humans have available to us.
Christians can look forward to seeing each other in heaven, but it won’t be in the form of angels.
