So what about this idea that we all have guardian angels that watch over us? It’s a belief that has been around for many centuries, and is alive and well today. Does every Christian really have a personal bodyguard sent from heaven to protect them? What does the Bible say about guardian angels?
God Sends Angels To Us
Angels are indeed sent to us from God at times for various reasons, including for our protection and to minister to us. God has in the past sent his angels to protect Israel, the Church, numerous individuals, and he still does so today. However, there is nothing in the Bible that proves for certain that each and every Christian has an angel assigned to them continuously.
(Hebrews 1:14) Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?
(Psalm 91:11) For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways
(Daniel 6:21-22) Daniel answered, “May the king live forever! My God sent his angel, and he shut the mouths of the lions.
These Little Ones
(Mathew 18:10) “See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.
This Scripture in Mathew is often used as possible evidence for guardian angels. Some have interpreted “these little ones” to mean little children, while others believe it is referring to those who believe in God. Regardless of the meaning, there isn’t enough evidence here to say for sure this verse means every adult Christian has a guardian angel at all times.
Guardian Angels As Needed
I have personally heard a number of testimonies of how God’s angels protected an individual. Often times the person being protected was unaware of the angels even being there at the time, only to find out later the angel or angels that were not visible to them, was visible to others.
As a believer God should always be our main focus, but it’s nice to know that we can have an angel sent from God to help us when we need it, even if we don’t always see them. When and where he chooses to send them is up to him.
Jesus said he would never leave us or forsake us and he would send his holy spirit to help us
