How old is God? As humans we measure things such as our age in time. Seconds, minutes, hours, days, and years are all very familiar terms for us. We are ask, and we ask others many times over our lives, “How old are you?” On the other hand, God does not answer to, nor is he bound by time. With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. (2 Peter 3:8)
God Is Older Than The Heavens And The Earth
The very first Scripture in the Bible tells us that in the beginning God created the heavens and the Earth (Genesis 1:1). In (Psalm 90:2) it says, “Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God”. As the creator, God is obviously older than the things he has created.
God Has No Age
God has no age. Although it may be hard for our human minds to comprehend that God has always been, that’s exactly what the Bible says, God always was.
(Revelation 1:8) “I am the Alpha and the Omega–the beginning and the end,” says the Lord God. “I am the one who is, who always was, and who is still to come–the Almighty One.” NLT
(1 Timothy 1:17) Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
(Psalm 93:2) Your throne was established long ago; you are from all eternity. (Many versions use the word everlasting instead of eternity)
The Scripture says God is from all eternity. The New Living Translation puts it, “You are from the everlasting past.” The word everlasting is defined as lasting forever or enduring through all time. (Revelation 10:6) says the angel swore by him (God) who lives for ever and ever. He has no beginning or ending because he is the beginning and the ending, the Alpha and Omega .
The Ancient Of Days
The Book of Daniel refers to God as the “Ancient of Days” (Daniel 7:9). This is in reference to the fact that God existed before time as we know it. We humans have a beginning on this earth, we have birthdays, and we grow old. However, our system of measuring things in time doesn’t apply to God.
While it may be difficult for some to grasp the reality of a God who has always been, the fact that there is an everlasting God and an eternity that awaits us all can’t be changed. For a Christian in eternity with the ageless God, how old we are won’t matter anymore. The good thing is we are all given an opportunity to not have to worry about growing old in the next life.
Then, when our dying bodies have been transformed into bodies that will never die, this Scripture will be fulfilled: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” (1 Corinthians 15:54)
