The Bible in its original form did not have chapters and verses. These were added later for convenience. With that being said, let’s take a look at the longest and shortest chapters in the Bible. On an interesting side note, you will notice the winner of both categories comes from the book of Psalms.
The Longest Chapter In The Bible – Psalm 119
Psalm 119 is not only the longest Psalm in the Bible, it is the longest chapter as well. Psalm 119 contains 176 verses and is estimated to take about 15 minutes for the average person to read.
The Shortest Chapter in The Bible – Psalm 117
We don’t have to travel far from Psalm 119 to find the shortest chapter. Just put it in reverse and back up to Psalm 117 to find the shortest chapter in the Bible. With only two verses and around 30 words, depending on what version of the Bible you are reading from, Psalm 117 is definitely on the short side.
