The number of times a woman’s name appears in the Bible depends on the translation of the Bible being read. For our purposes we will use the King James Version. The following are the 5 most mentioned women in the Bible.

The Most Mentioned Woman In The Bible

1. Sarah (41), Sarai (17), Sara (2) = (60 times total)

Abraham’s wife Sarah, the name she was most commonly called in the Scriptures, is the most mentioned woman in the Bible. Before God changed her name to Sarah, she went by the name of Sarai. She is also referred to as Sara a couple of times in the New Testament. Her names are found a total of 60 times in God’s Word.

2. Esther (56)

The Jewish queen Esther is the second most referred to woman in the Bible. Esther is also called by the name Hadassah 1 time in (Esther 2:7).This gives her a total of 57 mentions.

3. Rachel (47)

Jacob’s second wife Rachel comes in third place with her name appearing 47 times.

4. Leah (34)

While Leah may have been Jacob’s first wife, she comes in behind his second wife Rachel when it comes to the number of times her name appears in the Bible. Even so, she still makes the list of being one of the 5 most mentioned women in the Bible.

5. Rebekah (30)

Isaac’s wife Rebekah rounds out our top 5 list, having her name appearing in the Scriptures a total of 30 times.

Mary (The Mother of Jesus) 19 times

The mother of Jesus is the most mentioned woman in the New Testament. In addition to Mary’s name appearing 19 times in the New Testament, she is also referred to a number of other times in the Bible as the mother of Jesus.

  1. Mary Magdalene is mentioned 12 times by name in the New Testament. Is she second behind Mother Mary as the woman most mentioned by name? In June 2016 she was acknowledged by the Pope as Apostle to the Apostles.
