What will Heaven look like according to the Bible?

What will this place called heaven look like that Jesus is preparing for us (John 14:2-3)? Does the Bible give us a physical description of what we will see in heaven?

Many people have many different ideas of what heaven will look like. Sometimes these ideas come from personal opinions or dreams. Other times they come from inaccurate descriptions from Hollywood. While there are things about heaven we simply don’t know, the Bible does give us a few hints as to what heaven will really look like.

The Great Street Of Gold

(Revelation 21:21) The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate made of a single pearl. The great street of the city was of gold, as pure as transparent glass.

What can you say about a transparent street made of gold. When God does something, he does it right.

The Walls Of Heaven

The Holy City described in (Revelation 21) has 1400 miles of great high walls and gates (Revelation 21:16) with the walls being over 200 feet thick (Revelation 21:17). The foundations of the city walls are described as being decorated with every kind of precious stone (Revelation 21:19).

We Will See Animals In Heaven

(Isaiah 65:25) The wolf and the lamb will feed together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox, and dust will be the serpent’s food.

It looks like we can expect to see some well-mannered animals in heaven.

Things We Won’t See In Heaven

(Revelation 21:23) The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp.

We will see no sun, no moon, and no light bills in heaven! God will be the source of light.

The River Of Life And The Tree Of Life

(Revelation 22:1-2) Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.

Some people believe that the Bible is speaking figuratively when it talks about the river of life and the tree of life in Revelation. Either way, it’s not hard to imagine the most beautiful river and trees we have ever seen being in heaven.

The One Who Sits On The Throne

(Revelation 4:2-3) At once I was in the Spirit, and there before me was a throne in heaven with someone sitting on it. And the one who sat there had the appearance of jasper and ruby. A rainbow that shone like an emerald encircled the throne.

There will be many indescribable and amazing things to see in heaven. The most amazing will be the one who sits on the throne, Jesus! Whatever heaven looks like, it is certainly a place Christians can without a doubt look forward to going to!
