What is Christian apologetics?
The Bible Answer
The ability to explain to someone why you believe what you believe as a Christian would be a simple definition for the term Christian apologetics. Defending and answering questions about the Christian faith is something Peter talked about in the New Testament.
(1 Peter 3:15) But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who ask you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect
The Heart Of Christian Apologetics
At the heart of Christian apologetics is a person being prepared to answer why the God of the Bible is true, and that believing in him does not require blind faith. Apologetics has the potential to be able to convince those who do not believe in the Bible that it is truth, while at the same time strengthening the Christian’s faith. Answering the following types of questions would be a few examples of Christian apologetics in action.
How can I know God really exist?
How can you trust the Bible to be Gods word?
Why does God allow evil and suffering?
Aren’t there contradictions in the Bible?
If the Bible is true then what must I do to be saved?
The Serious, And The Not So Serious Apologetics
There are many more questions such as these that are asked by skeptics and critics of God and the Bible. Some of the questions asked in Christian apologetics are obviously of a serious nature, and then there are some that are not so serious. The question of “Did Adam and Eve have belly buttons?” is not what I would call a heaven or hell issue, but it is asked.
There will be those who just want to argue with us about our Christian faith. However, there will also be those with honest hearts who are seeking answers and truth about the Christian faith. These are the people we need to always be prepared to give an answer to, and to share the reasons for the hope that is in us.
