It is sometimes referred to as the Holy Scriptures, and at other times God’s Word. What is this book called the Bible?
A Book Of Books
Some people believe the Bible to be a bunch of old and outdated fairy tales. It is the best-selling book of all time, but as Christians we should never assume everyone knows exactly what the Bible is, who wrote it, and how it came to be.
The Bible is a book of books. Over a period of about 1500 years, forty different authors were inspired by God to write 66 different books. The Bible is simply a collection of these 66 books all placed into one book. Within the Bible, these books were divided into the Old Testament, the New Testament, and eventually chapters and verses.
The Bible Is God-Breathed
(2 Timothy 3:16) All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness
While humans wrote the Bible, we are told all Scripture is God-breathed. God used these humans to tell the true story of how humans and the earth came to be, the history that leads us to where we are now, and where we are going in the end. We learn about the rebellion of Adam and Eve in the beginning that lead to our sinful nature. We also find out that God himself came to earth as Jesus, died on the cross for us, and then rose again three days later. Because of his sacrifice, we have been given a way of forgiveness, salvation, and eternal life in heaven.
A Bunch Of Fairy Tales, Not Hardly
Although accusations have been made by some that the Bible is nothing more than a bunch of fairy tales, full of make-believe places and characters, archaeology has shown the Bible to be an amazingly accurate historical book. The archaeological evidence has proven time and again that the places and events written about in the Bible are far from being make-believe and fairy tales.
Our Road Map To Heaven
Without the Scriptures we would be lost and without an answer as to how we got here. Thankfully, we don’t have to be lost. God has given us the road map to heaven, the Bible!
