Where was Jesus born?
The Old Testament Prophesied Where Jesus Would Be Born
It was foretold in the Old Testament by the prophet Micah that Jesus would be born in Bethlehem.
(Micah 5:2) “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.”
Just as it was prophesied, Jesus was indeed born in Bethlehem.
(Mathew 2:1-2) After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”
A Humble Birthplace
(Luke 2:4-7) So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.
Although Joseph lived in Nazareth, he and Mary had traveled to Bethlehem to register in the census that was part of a decree issued by Caesar Augustus. It is while they were in Bethlehem that Mary gave birth to Jesus. It is believed that the city was full of people due to the census, which left no rooms available for Mary and Joseph. All of these circumstances led to the expecting mother giving birth to our Savior in a location that had a manger (feeding trough). The Bible says she wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger. Such a humble birthplace for the Savior of the world.
