The election has come and gone. If you were a responsible Christian, you took advantage of the privilege we have as Americans to vote. The results of the election have not been what most Christians were praying for, as of yet.
Although we have a media that has already declared Biden the winner, we are awaiting court decisions and recounts to know who our next president will be. So what are we Christians supposed to do now?
Keep Praying
First and foremost , we pray. Prayer is not a cop out answer, it’s simply the right answer. If there was ever a time we need to remember that we are not fighting against flesh and blood enemies, it’s now (Ephesians 6:12). It’s the spiritual world we’re dealing with, politics included.
Aside from continuing to pray about the outcome of the Presidential race, the two most important Senate races in history will occur in January. These two runoff elections in Georgia will determine who controls the Senate. Depending on who ends up being our next president, the Senate could be the only thing that protects our conservative Supreme Court from being changed to the point of being irrelevant. Needless to say, we have plenty to pray about.
Accepting the Election Outcome Either Way
After we have prayed, voted, and prayed some more, we have to be willing to accept the outcome. Regardless of who the president is, God has a plan.
Yes, we should continue to support the politicians who choose to stand up for what is right in regards to moral issues and protecting our freedoms as Americans. Thank God for them. With that being said, our primary focus before and after elections is to be soul winners.
In the midst of this current political season, I have heard it said that if some of us Christians were as passionate about winning souls to God as we are about our politics, our Church pews wouldn’t be so empty. Just to look at some peoples social media post, it’s hard to argue with this statement. Some of us can get really fired up with our political rants.
The Bible says we receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon us, and we will be his witnesses to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8). Most of us would agree, the witnessing here is in reference to telling others about Jesus, not our political views. It is Jesus people need to begin with before they will ever understand our pollical views.
Some Practical Things We Can Do
There are some practical things we can do as Christians. With so much of our news media supporting those who oppose everything we stand for, there are some news sources rising up that we can choose to support. By simply unfollowing some and following others, we can accomplish a couple of things.
For one, we don’t have to continue filling our minds with reading news from sources who long ago stopped reporting the truth within their articles. Just reading the headlines from some of these news agencies can be maddening, knowing so much of it is slanted and biased. It certainly doesn’t hurt to have our newsfeeds filled with sources who are more likely to report the truth.
The second thing this accomplishes is we as Christians are helping these news sources to grow. The amount of clicks, follows, and unfollows these people get is in the long run how they get paid. The more people who are following them and clicking on their articles, the more they get paid from their advertisers.
Admittingly, it is hard as Christians who love their country to watch while we as a nation continue to head in the wrong direction. In all honesty, knowing what both sides of the political spectrum openly stood for, this election should not have even been close enough for lawsuits and recounts to even matter, but it was.
So what do we do? We keep on doing what we are supposed to do. We pray and continue to support those who are standing for what is right, but most importantly we win souls to God’s kingdom by being a witness for Him.
No matter who seems to be winning down here, as we Bible-thumpers like to say, in the end, we know who wins!
