Like many questions involving Christian Apologetics, the question of how one can know that God exists can be answered in a very detailed, but sometimes hard to understand way. Explaining how complex the universe is, including the earth, humans, and everything else around us, this goes a long way in convincing a lot of people that there had to be a creator. For other people, man-made theories have created much doubt in the world about God’s existence. So how can a person know God exists?
The Bible Answer
(Romans 1:20) For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.
The Big Bang And Evolution
The idea that a Big Bang could have created the just right conditions required for the Earth to sustain life, and then to believe evolution is how and why humans exist, these are together the two biggest man-made theories that have taken root in many human minds. For those who choose to go along with such theories, they believe there is a good reason to deny the existence of a creator. For others who just aren’t sure if God exists, ideas such as these cause great confusion.
The question of “How can I know God exists?” can also be answered in a very simple way. When we think about how the universe and everything else got here, we really only have two choices to pick from. Either God created the universe, or the universe came from nothing.
We Know Why Buildings And Paintings Exist
When you see buildings or houses, you know the structures did not just appear on their own. They required workers to make them. The same can be said for a painting. No one assumes the painting just appeared. It required a painter. The watch requires a watchmaker. Things exist because someone made them.
Many people will agree with this simple concept. However, they still want you to believe the Earth and humans exist not because of God, but because of something like the Big Bang Theory. As scientific as any of their explanations are made to sound, you still have to ask at some point how they get something from nothing. If there was something that caused the Big Bang, then where did that something come from. Scientists have never been able to answer that question. If I am not expected to believe houses and paintings appear from nothing, I certainly don’t have enough faith to believe the universe did.
God Exists, It’s The Only Choice
Faith is going to be required regardless of what you decide to believe. The Big Bang and evolution or man-made ideas that no one has ever witnessed. This leaves us with the only other choice I do have enough faith to believe. If nothing can’t make something, then there had to be a Creator. This fits the God of the Bible. God has told us in his word how he made the heavens, the earth, and everything in it.
