What does the Bible say about Atheism and being an Atheist?
Atheism is defined as disbelief or a lack of belief in God. An atheist is someone who claims to believe there is no God.
The more well-known of the Scriptures that deal with being an atheist is found in (Psalm 14:1). It says the fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” A second Scripture from the book of Psalms says, in the pride of his face the wicked does not seek him; all his thoughts are, “There is no God.” ESV (Psalm 10:4)
Atheism And Accountability
A person who denies the existence of God more times than not is someone who doesn’t want to be held accountable to a creator. Saying there is no God allows these people in their minds to live their lives as they choose without having to answer to God.
While saying they do not have enough faith to believe in God because they can’t see him, they claim to believe in theories such as “The Big Bang” and “The Evolutionary Theory”. It has often been said that it takes more faith to be an atheist who believes all of creation just appeared from nothing than it does to simply believe there is a God who created it all. This is certainly a true statement, so how can so many claim to be atheists who do not believe in God?
Atheists Will Be Without Excuse
(2 Corinthians 4:4) says Satan, who is the God of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. While this explains how some can claim to believe in these alternative theories to God, the Bible also says they will be without excuse for not knowing God.
(Romans 1:20) For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities–his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God. NLT
You will find no back and forth arguments in the Bible between God and man in which he is trying to convince us humans as to why we should believe he exist. The Bible simply states in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. (Genesis 1:1) There is no other reasonable explanation.
Whether you are a Christian, or if you claim to be an atheist, it says in (Romans 14:11), “As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, “every knee will bow before me; every tongue will acknowledge God.” Sooner or later, for better or worse, everyone will bow and acknowledge God.
