What is the Book of Life?

Text that says "Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life." Revelation 21:27

If there is one book that you want to have your name written in, this one is it. The Book of Life is referred to numerous times in Revelation. It contains the names of those who will be allowed to enter into heaven. These are the people who will live with God forever in eternity.

(Revelation 21:27) Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

Other Scriptures That Refer To The Book Of Life

(Philippians 4:3) Yes, and I ask you, my true companion, help these women since they have contended at my side in the cause of the gospel, along with Clement and the rest of my co-workers, whose names are in the book of life.

(Revelation 3:5) The one who is victorious will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never blot out the name of that person from the book of life, but will acknowledge that name before my Father and his angels.

(Revelation 13:8) All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast–all whose names have not been written in the Lamb’s book of life, the Lamb who was slain from the creation of the world.

If Your Name Isn’t Found

(Revelation 20:15) Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.

(Revelation 20:12) And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books.

The lake of fire awaits those whose names are not found in the Book of Life. It will mean an eternal separation from God that didn’t have to be.

How To Get Your Name Written In The Book Of Life

There is only one way to have your name written in the Book of Life, obedience to God’s plan of salvation. This includes repentance, baptism in the name of Jesus, and allowing God to fill us with His Spirit!

As exciting as it may be for some to have their names written in a newspaper, or elsewhere in recognition of some type of award or honor, nothing will ever compare to finding your name written in the heavenly Book, and hearing Jesus say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” The Bible tells us to rejoice that our names are written in heaven. (Luke 10:20)
