For you songbirds out there who want to know if the Bible ever mentions anything about Jesus singing, the answer is yes. Admittingly, this is one of those questions that very few of us have probably ever thought to ask. However, now that we know the answer is yes, let’s take a look at where exactly in the Bible it says Jesus used his vocal chords to make a heavenly sound.
Jesus Singing At The Last Supper
(Mathew 26:29-31) I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.” When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. Then Jesus told them, “This very night you will all fall away on account of me, for it is written: “‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered. Then Jesus told them, “This very night you will all fall away on account of me, for it is written: “‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.
(Mark 14:26) When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
Both of these Gospels are referring to the same event in which Jesus, along with his disciples, most likely sang (Psalms 113-118) at the Last Supper. The singing of these Scriptures known as the “Hallel” was part of a centuries old Jewish tradition that was part of the Passover meal.
It’s amazing to think that Jesus was singing with his disciples on the very night that he was to be betrayed. It is equally amazing to read the words of Psalm 113-118, knowing that these are the words Jesus was singing just hours before he was to be crucified.
