By many they are called man’s best friend. They come in all shapes and sizes. Lot’s of folks love them. Some people hate them. We’re talking about dogs. Are dogs mentioned in the Bible?

A Bunch Of Dogs In The Bible

Dogs are found in the Bible many times. In the New International Version of the Bible dogs are mentioned 42 times. Unfortunately for the dog lovers in the world, it is usually in a not so flattering way. As you will see in the following Scriptures, dogs are often grouped with evildoers, pigs, sorcerers, murderers, and other unflattering company.

(Psalm 22:16) For dogs encompass me; a company of evildoers encircles me; they have pierced my hands and feet

(Mathew 7:6) Do not give dogs what is holy, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, lest they trample them underfoot and turn to attack you.

(Revelation 22:15) Outside are the dogs and sorcerers and the sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.

Some Habits Never Change

Beggars

These animals still have the same habits today as they did back in the Bible days. Dogs have always loved to beg for food at the table.

(Mathew 15:27) She said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.”

Vomit Eaters

Dogs have for some reason always made it a habit to eat their own vomit.

(Proverbs 26:11) Like a dog that returns to his vomit is a fool who repeats his folly.

Flea-Ridden

One last observation, a dog and fleas have apparently always gone together.

(1 Samuel 24:14) Against whom has the king of Israel come out? Who are you pursuing? A dead dog? A flea?
