She is also credited with finding the tomb of Jesus empty and then running to Peter and the other disciples to let them know Jesus was no longer there (John 20:1-2). The risen Jesus appears to her when she returns to the tomb. (John 20:13-17)
Mary of Bethany (The Sister of Lazarus and Martha)
Mary number three lived with her brother (Lazarus) and sister (Martha) in a place called Bethany. Jesus visited their home on at least two different occasions. On one of these visits Mary poured expensive perfume on the feet of Jesus and then wiped his feet with her hair (John 12:3).
On another visit by Jesus to their home Mary sits at the feet of Jesus listening to what he has to say, while Martha is distracted by preparations that have to be made. When Martha complains to the Lord that she is having to do all the work while her sister sits and listens, Jesus tells Martha that her sister has chosen what is better and that it will not be taken from her. (Luke 10:38-42)
