Should we Pray to Angels?

Should we pray to angels?

No Other Gods

Prayer and worship go hand in hand, and both are reserved for God alone. The very first of the Ten Commandments says, “You shall have no other gods before me” (Exodus 20:3). Satan, as a fallen angel, even went so far as to try to get Jesus to bow down and worship him. Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.” (Mathew 4:9-10)

No Example Of Prayer To Angels in The Bible

There are no examples or instances in the Bible where people ever prayed to angels. Angels are beings that were created by God, just as we are. They are servants of God, spirits sent to care for people who will inherit salvation. (Hebrews 1:14)

When the disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray, his response was, “When you pray, say: “‘Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come (Luke 11:2). Again, our prayers are meant for God, not angels.

There’s Only One Mediator

While some people believe angels can be some sort of go-between for humanity and God, the Bible says different. (1 Timothy 2:5) For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus. Jesus, as God himself in the flesh, is the only one we should ever pray to. He alone is our mediator.

Misplaced Worship

Angels certainly are a different type of being than humans, with different capabilities. Because of this, we tend to be fascinated by them. With that being said, this fascination should never turn in to any type of worship, as John found to be the case in Revelation.

(Revelation 22:8-9) I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I had heard and seen them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who had been showing them to me. But he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your fellow prophets and with all who keep the words of this scroll. Worship God!

The angels response to John’s misplaced worship, “Don’t worship me, worship God!” With prayer being a form of worship, the same can be said about it. Don’t pray to angels, pray to God!
