What happened to Mary the Mother of Jesus?

Text that reads, "And he said to this disciple, "Here is your mother." John 19:27

The clearest answer we get from the Bible as to what happened to Mary (the mother of Jesus) after the crucifixion of Jesus can be found in John’s Gospel (John 19). The Scriptures tell us that Mary was standing near the cross of Jesus, along with John the disciple. When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple he loved, he tells her, “Dear woman, here is your son.” He then tells his disciple, “Here is your mother.” The Bible says from that time on, this disciple took her into his home. From this it is clear that Jesus left the Apostle John in charge of caring for his mother Mary.

(John 19:25-27) Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman, here is your son,” and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.

The Last Time We Hear Of Mary

The last time that anything is recorded about Mary in the Bible is at Pentecost (Acts 1:14). She is found among those who were in the upper room joined together in constant prayer. After this the Scriptures are silent as to exactly how the rest of her life was lived out or how she died. Most scholars make the assumption that she died of old age.
