A man lifting weights that represents Samson from the Bible having big muscles.
Samson from the Bible has always been portrayed as a man with big muscles. You will find it hard to come across a picture of the strongman in children’s Bible story books that doesn’t show him as having bulging muscles. Does the Bible say if Samson was a monster of a man with big muscles?

What He Did

It’s hard to blame anyone for thinking Samson had big muscles. Take a look at some of the things the Bible says he did.

(Judges 14:6) The Spirit of the LORD came powerfully upon him so that he tore the lion apart with his bare hands as he might have torn a young goat.

(Judges 15:15) Finding a fresh jawbone of a donkey, he grabbed it and struck down a thousand men.

(Judges 16:3) Then he got up and took hold of the doors of the city gate, together with the two posts, and tore them loose, bar and all. He lifted them to his shoulders and carried them to the top of the hill that faces Hebron.

(Judges 16:29-30) Then Samson reached toward the two central pillars on which the temple stood. Bracing himself against them, his right hand on the one and his left hand on the other, Samson said, “Let me die with the Philistines!” Then he pushed with all his might, and down came the temple on the rulers and all the people in it. Thus he killed many more when he died than while he lived.

Was Samson A Muscle Head?

The Bible doesn’t give a physical description of Samson that says he was a muscle head. What the Bible does say is the Spirit of the Lord came upon him powerfully. Whether Samson had big muscles or not, there’s no doubting what he was able to do was a result of strength and power that came directly from God. No amount of human strength would have allowed him to do the things he did, regardless of how big his biceps were. His strength came from above!

1 thought on “Did Samson have Big Muscles?”

  1. Why would someone ask for the source of a very gigantic man that has a very big muscle already? I think it is odd. God works in simplicity. I believe Samson was a little fellow that the spirit of God made powerful and even the enemy wonder where that kind of strength comes from.
