Ishbi-Benob Tries To Kill King David

In (2 Samuel 21:15-17) the Philistines and Israel are once again at war. King David goes down with his men to fight against the Philistines. During battle David becomes exhausted. Ishbi-benob, armed with a new sword, has intentions of killing the weary David.

Before the giant has a chance to kill the king, David’s nephew Abishai comes to his rescue. Abishai attacks Ishbi-benob and kills him, thus saving the king. After this David’s men declare to him, “You will never go out to do battle with us again, so that the lamp of Israel will not be extinguished.”
