Finding names of angels in the Bible is not common. Only four of them have names that are given in the Scriptures, and two of the four are former angels. Listed below are the four named angels in the Bible, along with the Scriptures that they appear in.

1. Gabriel – The Messenger

Gabriel is an archangel who appears a number of times in the Bible with messages for people.

(Daniel 8:16) And I heard a man’s voice from the Ulai calling, “Gabriel, tell this man the meaning of the vision.”

(Daniel 9:21) While I was still in prayer, Gabriel, the man I had seen in the earlier vision, came to me in swift flight about the time of the evening sacrifice.

(Luke 1:19) The angel said to him, “I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news.

(Luke 1:26) In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee,

2. Michael – The Warrior Archangel

Michael is the name given in the Bible for the angel considered to be a warrior archangel.

(Daniel 10:13) But the prince of the Persian kingdom resisted me twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, because I was detained there with the king of Persia.

(Daniel 10:21) But first I will tell you what is written in the Book of Truth. No one supports me against them except Michael, your prince.

(Daniel 12:1) At that time Michael, the great prince who protects your people, will arise.

(Jude 1:9) But even the archangel Michael, when he was disputing with the devil about the body of Moses, did not himself dare to condemn him for slander but said, “The Lord rebuke you!”

(Revelation 12:7) Then war broke out in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back.

3. Lucifer / Satan

Satan, who also goes by the name Lucifer or the devil, is the former angel who was cast down from heaven because of his desire to raise himself above God.

(Isaiah 14:12) How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! KJV

(2 Corinthians 11:14) And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.

(Revelation 12:9) The great dragon was hurled down–that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.

4. Abaddon / Apollyon – The Angel of the Bottomless Pit

Abaddon / Apollyon is the final name or names of angels in the Bible. This is apparently another former angel who is now a demon of the bottomless pit. He is described as the ruler over the locust (evil spirits) that will rise out of the pit to torment those who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads.

(Revelation 9:11) They had as king over them the angel of the Abyss, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon and in Greek is Apollyon (that is, Destroyer).
