What were Jesus’ Last Words before he Ascended to Heaven?

What was the last thing Jesus said before his ascension into heaven? These famous last words can be found in the Book of Acts.

Waiting For The Promise

The set-up to these last words of the Lord begins in (Acts 1:4), where the Bible says while Jesus was gathered together with them, he told them they should not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father. This promise Jesus was referring to was the Old Testament promise that was spoken of by the prophet Joel (Joel 2:28-32). It was the promise that believers would be baptized with the Holy Ghost on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2:1-4).

The Last Words Of Jesus on Earth

Those who had gathered asked Jesus if the time had come for him to restore the kingdom to Israel. It was then that Jesus spoke his last words on earth before his ascension into heaven.

He said to them, “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:7-8)

Jesus’ Ascension Into Heaven

After speaking his final words, Jesus was taken up into a cloud while they were watching, and they could no longer see him. As they looked into the sky, two white-robed men (angels) suddenly stood beside them. The angels said to them, “Why are you standing here looking into the sky? This same Jesus who has been taken from you into heaven, he will come back in the same way you saw him go!” (Acts 1:10-11)
